AI Model Guides

Last reviewed: 2026-06-05. Model names, context windows, pricing, and provider features change quickly; verify production choices against official provider documentation.

Use this section to compare the model platforms covered by ETok and choose a starting point for AI coding.

How to Choose a Model for Coding

Start from the job, not the brand. AI coding work usually falls into a few repeatable patterns: quick code edits, long repository analysis, multimodal debugging, agentic CLI workflows, or high-volume automation. The right model is the one that fits the task shape, latency budget, context size, and tool ecosystem you actually need.

What to Verify Before Production

  • Current model name and deprecation status
  • Context window and output limits for your account or region
  • Tool calling, structured output, and image/audio support
  • Pricing for input, output, cached tokens, and batch workloads
  • CLI support in Claude Code, OpenAI Codex, Gemini CLI, or your chosen gateway
  1. Read the model overview that matches your use case.
  2. Get an API key or provider credentials.
  3. Install a coding CLI such as Claude Code or OpenAI Codex.
  4. Use CC Switch if you need to manage multiple AI coding tools and providers.

FAQ

Should I choose the newest model by default?

Not always. Newer models often improve capability, but stable workflows also depend on latency, price, context limits, tool support, and how often the provider changes model names.

Which model is best for AI coding?

There is no single default. Use OpenAI for broad API ecosystem work, Claude for long-context code and document-heavy reasoning, and Gemini when multimodal input or Google ecosystem integration is central.

How often should model pages be reviewed?

Review model and pricing content whenever providers announce new releases, and at minimum before publishing installation commands, pricing claims, or context-window recommendations.
